Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) in Express Entry was designed to provide workers with skilled work experience in Canada a chance to immigrate to Canada as Permanent Residents.  Work experience obtained while a student in Canada or self-employed periods of employment do not count towards this program.

  • Have at least one year of skilled full-time work experience in Canada (or part-time equivalent) in the last 3 years before you apply.

    • One year of full-time work experience is a minimum of 30 hours/week for 52 weeks

    • Part-time equivalent work experience is considered (for example 15 hours/week for 104 weeks)

    • You can work two skilled jobs to meet this requirement (for example 20 hours/week in Job 1 and 10 hours/week in Job 2

    • Any combination of NOC 0, A or B level work qualifies under this category

  • All work experience must have been obtained with legal authorization to work in Canada

How to calculate your work experience

  • managerial jobs (skill level 0)

  • professional jobs (skill type A)

  • technical jobs and skilled trades (skill type B)
