Federal Skilled Worker Program

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) in Express Entry provides skilled workers from all over the world an opportunity to immigrate to Canada and become Permanent Residents.  This program considers an applicant’s age, level of education, proficiency in French and English and their work experience as main eligibility factors.

In order to qualify for this program, you must score a minimum of 67/100 points under the Selection Criteria for a skilled worker.  Factors considered:

  • Age

  • Education

  • Work experience

  • Whether you have a valid job offer

  • English and/or French language skills

  • Adaptability (how well you’re likely to settle here) such as your previous work or studies in Canada, close family members and your Spouse’s level of English or French.

* Only those who score 67/100 or greater will be accepted into the Express Entry pool.

Minimum requirements

  • 1 year of skilled, full-time, continuous and paid work experience in a single occupation (NOC 0, A or B) within the last 10 years

    • One year of full-time work experience is a minimum of 30 hours/week for 52 weeks (1560 hours)

    • Part-time equivalent work experience is considered (for example 15 hours/week for 104 weeks)

  • Work experience gained while you were studying may count towards this program so long as it was paid by wages or commissions, was continuous (no gaps) and meets all other program requirements

  • CELPIP/IELTS/TEF/TCF of a CLB 7

  • Proof of Canadian education or a foreign equivalent

    • An Education Credential Assessment (ECA) is mandatory for all education outside of Canada

  • Settlement Funds to support your family size

    • Unless you have a valid job offer in Canada, you must show that you have a minimum proof of funds depending on the size of your family members, whether they are accompanying you or not.

Once you have met these minimum requirements, you will be accepted into the Express Entry pool.  Your profile will then be reassessed under the Comprehensive Ranking System points.
